"Safety Not Guaranteed" Review

This movie's going straight to the top!

Chances are you haven't heard of Saftey Not Guarenteed. Allow me to fix that. SNG follows Darius (Aubrey Plaza), Jeff (New Girl's Jake Johnson) and Arnau (Karan Soni), three journalists that decides to fins out the truth behind the mysterious newspaper ad asking for someone to go time traveling. Upon investigating, they meet Kenneth (Mark Duplass), the man who put out the ad.ion continues, Kenneth's story becomes more mysterious and Darius begins to fall for him.
By now you've probably heard the ad proclaiming "WANTED: Someone to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. You'll get paid when we get back. Must bring your own weapons. I have only done this once before. Safety not guaranteed." It has gone on to become a popular interent meme, so that fact that they made a movie based on the ad is surprising. The fact that that movie is one of the best movies of the year is downright awesome.

The budget of Trans4mers is
less than the others, but they make it work.
SNG could have easily been an awful movie. With the ad mentioned above, it's not that far a stretch to create a film mocking the writer os this ad as a crazy lunatic and make a comedy off of that. But, instead, SNG delivers one of the funniest and most heartfelt stories in a while. This a movie about people's pre-occupation with the past and that wanting to go back to a "simpler" time. And the way the character's deal with past mistakes and their own future is what makes the film.
Sure, there aren't any explosions or car chases. And sure, there aren't any big, sweeping romantic moments. Safety Not Guaranteed is a small, quiet movie that works perfectly. The actors all bring a large amount of life to the film's great characters and more often then not will be tugging at your heartstrings or making you laugh harder than you have in an movie in a while. It isn't every week when a movie this smart and compelling comes around and this is not one to miss.

Now it's a party!
Safety Not Guaranteed is a movie you probably haven't seen but really should. The characters are great and the actors do a great job, bringing the terrific story to life. It's heartfelt, hilarious and just downright smart. Safetey Not Guaranteed is one of the year's best movies. Safety Not Guaranteed gets 5 and a half stars out of 6.
