"Lockout" Review

Almost every year a movie comes out that has a cool concept that fails to deliver on what should have been awesome. Last year's Cowboys and Aliens and infamous example Snakes on a Plane both had cool concepts that ultimately failed to make these otherwise uninteresting films be well, good. And while we still have to wait to see what the verdict is when this year's arguably craziest concept, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter gets released in June, the other big cool concept movie just got released, and yes, it isn't very good. This is Lockout!

"Real Steel" Review

Every now and again, a critic has to admit, as much as they don't want to, that they were wrong about something. Most of the time it comes when a movie that convinces us through its trailers that it will actually be good, turns out to be, well, John Carter. However, sometimes critics pan the trailer for a movie that turns out to be really good. Back in my Contagion review, I said Real Steel looked like nothing to look at. Sometimes, it's great being wrong. This is Real Steel!

We Need to Talk: Stop Teasing Me!

As I had said in the first episode of this new show, I wasn't quite sure how often I would be posting episodes, but even I didn't think I'd write another one this quickly. But a current trend in movie advertising that has me fairly dumb-struck and I feel that I need to talk about it. Why, for the love of everything, do we need trailers FOR MOVIE TRAILERS?

We Need to Talk: Cash In and Fail

In this new weekly series, I will discuss something that has to do with something going on in the past week or related to the movie I have most recently reviewed. While I will definitely (Hopefully?) get at least one episode out to you a week, there may be more than one depending on what I want to say. For this inaugural episode, in honor of Shark Night failed cash-in on Piranha 3D's success, I'm gonna list some movies that tried so hard to cash-in on the success of of something more popular and failed. Starting with...

"Shark Night" Review

Horror movies are something that I hardly have touched upon in my time of writing Cinema Won. Personally, I feel as if the recent outings in the horror genre don't seem particularly interesting, especially since I don't really like being scared while watching a movie. I do enjoy the Friday the 13th series and Evil Dead II is one of my all-time favorite movies. And with my recent kick of watching classic horror movies, I tired to rent the original Jaws, however, that was unavailable, so I got stuck with this crap instead. This is Shark Night.

The Cinema Won Movie List

As you may have already noticed, there is a new page on the website. The Cinema Won Movie List simply states all of the movies that I have reviewed or have been reviewed on the blog, organized by score. They are all linked to their review and I will update whenever possible. Check it out.

"Gnomeo and Juliet" Review

Some people like surprises. Some people don't I personally think that (and I think most people would agree with) good surprises are, well, good. And that goes especially for movies. This past year movies like Kung Fu Panda 2, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Super 8 can all contest to that fact. But, will the ridiculous Gnomeo and Juliet surprise us. Let's find out.

Unfortunately Not An April Fools Day Joke

As this news broke yesterday, April Fools Day, many hoped this bit on new was one of the many pranks that had been told. Sadly, the fact that Ashton Kutcher will be playing legendary Apple creator Steve Jobs in a new biopic, is true.

Recall This Remake

The original 1990 film Total Recall is for me at least, one of the greatest action films ever and maybe even one of the best period. And while I normally try to judge every movie on it's own and not based off of what it's adapting and I certainly have nothing against doing something different, the trailer for the new remake leaves me unimpressed.

Not Turtles Either

A lot of fuss has been made by the fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles after, as I talked about last week, Michael Bay apparently changed their origin slightly for his new film, now making them aliens or having something to do with aliens, and as the new title for the upcoming film is just Ninja Turtles, many fans fear he is also getting rid of the "Teenage" part of the name. But, now it seems, it is going to be even worse. A leaked draft of the script has revealed that they aren't even turtles anymore. They are part of an alien race coming down to Earth looking for a new home. However, when their "Skin" reacts to Earth's atmosphere, it's "Mutates" them into turtle-looking creatures. So, now, they really are just Ninjas. Great. One last thing:
