The 84th annual Academy Awards are just hours away and much like every other film fan out there, I am here to predict who will win and who should win. Starting with:
Best Supporting Actor:
Kenneth Branagh, My Week With Marylin
Johan Hill, Moneyball
Nick Nolte, Warrior
Christopher Plummer, Beginners
Max von Sydow, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Will Win: Plummer. Hill will be a close second, but the Academy will go with the elder Plummer, mostly because this is Hill's first nomination.
Should Win: Nolte. He hit it out of the park in Warrior, one of my favorite films of the year.
Best Supporting Actress:
Berenice Bejo, The Artist
Jessica Chastain, The Help
Melissa McCarthy, Bridesmaids
Janet McTeer, Albert Nobbs
Octavia Spencer, The Help
Will Win: Spencer. She's been taking all the awards and the Oscars will be no different.
Should Win: McCarthy. A huge upset if she does win, will be fun to see.
Best Adapted Screenplay:
The Descendants
Hugo
The Ides of March
Moneyball
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Will Win: The Descendants. Strong group of films, however Descendants should take it home.
Should Win: The Descendants. How awesome would it be if Jim Rash (The Dean on Community) won!
Best Original Screenplay:
The Artist
Bridesmaids
Margin Call
Midnight in Paris
A Separation
Will Win: Midnight in Paris. Woody Allen will not go home empty handed. If he shows up.
Should Win: Midnight in Paris. The story was brilliant and deserves the Oscar.
Best Original Song:
"Man or Muppet", The Muppets
"Real in Rio", Rio
Will Win: Muppets. Not much competition and The Muppets are favorites of everyone.
Should Win: Muppets. What can I say? The song is awesome.
Best Visual Effects:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Real Steel
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Hugo
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Will Win: Hugo. I'm going out on a limb here but, I think the voters like Hgo more than any other movie on the list. It's nominted for Best Picture after all.
Should Win: Apes. Serkis's motion capture was incredible and made the movie.
